Finally got the knuckle off after a lot of heat, cursing and bashing with a large copper mallet. The ball joints came out with the C clamp press I bought online. A scary amount of force used on a 4 foot extension bar. Clamp held up well. Now I just need to put the new ball joints back in.

Hi, I'm new here. Great write up. I'm in the process of doing this job too. Finally got the knuckle off with a ram, was stuck in there real good. FYI to others you don't need to remove the axle nut (thank god!) it comes out as a single assembly with the drive shaft. Seems my ball joints are ceased in there too. Pushed upper ball joint bolt through the top of the ball joint! Broke a steel plate in half with the tool which was at least 12mm thick and then finally broke the tool! Didn't win today....

    ABS and seal questions

Hendrik thanks for the excellent tutorial. I am halfway through the process.

    I have a 99 D2 TD5

    2 questions.

On the Drivers side my ABS cable does not connect under the MasterBrake Cylinder, it goes along the bulkhead to the other side of the engine bay and then appears to disappear into the bulkhead. There is an "open" ABS plug under the Master Cylinder. Is this normal?

The area behind the knuckle where the CV goes in, on the passenger side seems to be moist with oil, should/can I replace this seal?

    Thanks
