Had a look at the link on this one. Story is a little strange and I do not see what Land Rover expected to achieve in the USA from the press release.
What is more interesting is the comments from people about the press release. A few have picked up that Ford with their version of the Jeep have actually been in the 4x4 market longer than Land Rover. Others that the first Land Rover was based on a Jeep. None that I can see mentioned that the Jeep was based on a modified Austin 7 which of course was a British vehicle that Bantam the company that actually designed the Jeep was licence producing at the time. So while the Jeep was not a British product it was based on a British design with more in common than Jeep and Land Rover had or have.
