    Problems:-

    1. Bell housing is different between the 2.25 and the IOE engines. Need a bell housing off a Series 2 gearbox. Series 3 bellhousing is not practical as it has a different clutch arrangement not suitable for direct operation. Need to use S2a clutch, not S3.
    2. Engine mounts are different location.
    3. Different exhaust.
    4. Air cleaner to carbie off S3.
    5. Throttle linkage will need some modification.
    6. Fuel system a bit different - no electric pump (although you could use it!)
7 Space lengthways will be tight, but lots of people have done it, so it must fit. (but Rover added 2" to fit it)
    8. Radiator - easiest is to use Series 3 radiator, but for looks (square tank) a S2/2a one would be better. Otherwise, custom hoses.
    9. Changed wiring for alternator - not ideal running this through the ammeter but you can get away with it. Change of polarity will require swapping ammeter terminals.

    I may have missed something.

The other problem is the L/H engine mounting R/H side will, with 80" engine mounts L/H side will need a spacer and longer bolts to fit.

That's fine. Apart from welding a later series engine mount to the chassis.
Or making a spacer to fit the 80" mount it wont sit near enough. AS John sez
a 6 cyl bellhousing will have to be swapped to fit it in also..........

i have a s3 gbox in bits can this be useful at all?
i will only run it for maybe an hour
there wont be any panels on the front
    the firewall will be on
the exhaust doesnt matter i can cut it if i have to
fuel isnt a big problem atm because i can just put some in the carby if i have to
air cleaner wont be an issue as i said this is only for a short time
i dont know if there will really be any wiring

You will still have problems as the S/2 - 3 bell housings are hydraulic
clutch set ups and you need to swapp to the S1 manual clutch set up.
do able but requires the thinking cap.......
