Yes it does or it is removable.

The back of this style of truck cab is the same as an early 1948/48 hood with the removable section in the middle

    Roger that Mike.

Apparently, the rear flap slides up on those 3 tab things each side and is secured by straps somehow. The drivers handbook tries to explain it, but I just cannot follow it , it's too complicated for words.

    Hi Mike
That is a really early example of the 80" , check out the canvas tie down hoops on the side of the tub.
I'll have a look in my spare parts manual and see if there is any more info I can give you about that short top.

    Cheers Arthur

    Hi Arthur

Yes I think they said it's a pre-pro car . Observant of you to notice it . Look at the tailgate too , it looks different .

Staple for hood strap, Qty 10, Part No 300924. Qty 2 off, from vehicles numbered 8666001 onwards.

Item 20, Rear Curtain Assembly For Hoods, Qty 1, Part No 301027, vehicles numbered 860001 to 8666000 .

No mention of this particular hood in my operation manual for Land Rover 1951-53 models (fifth edition. May 1952, Part No 3909 )

    Mike,

The canvas truck cab is part 301035 from Parts Manual TP111A December 1948. Its only listed in the very early parts books.

I couldn't help myself, this photo now resides with the others, I have collected, in my 80" photo's folder .
    Thanks for that.

On the point of the cab part number there are two numbers listed in my parts manual, the other being for Hood Complete Assembly, Driver's, Qty 1, Part number 304198. I assume this is for the canvas top complete with the hood stick and fittings.

    These look excellent.
I'd love to have the blueprint (?right word?) for one so I could knock one up!...(wonder what they'd cost now)

I know this is off topic a bit,

but when did they start producing the 80" hard top unit...

I was led to believe it was early 50's and then retrofitted?

    cheers

    Ah ha,

Interesting part number. 304198 is actually the Canvas Truck Cab for curved hood bow or Drivers Hood.

You have touched on an interesting area of research. But to give you a clue as to the age of this part, if you look in the 86" parts book there are many bodywork parts starting with 304.

Hence why 301035 is the earlier 3 seater canvas.

There is a heap more to the way the parts systems work, but internally at LR 304198 is listed as 3 seater hood complete with rear curtain.
