Thread: Potential S1 purchase. Advice requested.

80" Landrovers are becoming more collectible, but price is very heavily dependent on condition, exact model, condition, completeness, condition, originality, provenence and condition, that it is impossible to even suggest a figure.

To put some outer bounds, a couple of hundred might be the most you would pay for a late 80" that has a Holden motor and has been thoroughly thrashed, with a rotten chassis and bulkhead. On the other hand, a 49 model with original motor, good chassis and in going order might be worth $3-4,000, or, if complete in every detail and in good condition, and with a documented history, as much as $10,000, or even more if some historical connection.

Seriously hard to say Mick....Chassis number will help...the earlier the more valuable...then original bits and peices will increase value (engine/pto?/winch?/etc etc) and then of course the obvious is rust. Firewall/Chassis.
I will start with $1000 to $2500 but really am plucking.

I have a couple of 1956 doors if you do buy it. And a bonnet. Yours if you need 'em.

The one I am looking at has doors.

Sorry I misread your initial post. Not sure they are the right doors anyway. (I think they are off an 86")

Yeah chassis number will tell lots. Has it got the original motor? More details please Mick

More info on the S1 is going to take longer.
I think the chassis no. may start with 0611 followed by four indecipherable digits. Or would that be an engine no.? Honestly, the scribble on this piece of paper is infantile. OK. I was excited when I wrote it down.

it looks like a bug eye 51, which are not that rare
If the engine runs and you can drive it
That is a big plus
and thats add a bit to what it is worth
if you wanted to bring it back to mickey mouse condition you are up for $1000's
to bring it back to drivable nick it would be far cheaper
to get it on the road, it would depend on your State requirements how far you have to go
In many ways it is fun, and frustration all rolled into one
I done 3 of them, if I do another please have me committed
start at $750/1000 you may get lucky

The idea is to get is registered, possibly on the club plate scheme.
From what I understand, I may get it at whatever price I offer. I want to offer a fair price as there are friendships to be maintained.

I'll second everything JDNSW put above. So, what do I think it's worth? Something between what the owner wants to get and what you are willing to pay. But I'd guess a reasonable figure (which is a stab in the dark without seeing it) might be between $1000.00-$2000.00 depending on factors such as the original Rover motor (1600 up to '52 - 2000 Siamese bore there after) and running gear, chassis / firewall condition etc. Running is good!

I say come to a fair agreement with your friend and go for it - they are such lovely vehicles....and as they say, you don't have to be mad to feel this way, but it certainly helps.
