    Chassis Drama

    Hi guys,
I'm rebuilding my father in laws first new car. I had stripped every thing off the chassis and taken it to my factory for repairs.

Someone has pinched the damn thing.

It was an 88". I can get an 86" and the service manual appears to show that there is not much difference. Does anyone know if there is a big difference and if so what? I can make most modifications in the factory but don't want to have to stuff around too much.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Oh dear!

The difference between the 86 and the 88 is all in the engine bay, and the major panel difference from memory is the mudguards. Someone should be able to provide dimensions, but I think it should be fairly easy to modify the 86 chassis to 88, although it is also possible (but unlikely!) that someone here may be able to supply an 88 chassis.

I think the front spring hangers, rear shackle anchorage and cross member are all moved forward 2", but you need to get this confirmed.

Hi, I am close to putting a Series I 88" on ebay if that would be of help. It is a nearly complete western car, so is pretty much rust free (except for surface rust) and has a great chassis and bulkhead. Dave

Hi guys, I've just started stripping down a 1957 '88 and have discovered that both the chassis and the bulkhead are in a pretty shabby state, at present I'm not sure they are salvageable... Are either of your offers still valid?

    Terry

Edit: does anyone know if it's possible to pick up new S1 bulkheads over here - only I've seem a couple in the UK...

You maybe able to get a firewall from the UK but at over 1000 pounds just for a firewall I would be keeping my eye out for a good rebuildable fire wall here.

That's not good news, isnt there anything sacred anymore? i know this is in bad taste but if i was to tell you my mother's 88 tub was stolen is that going to help me find another one from one of you guys? Sorry for the sense of humour hope you catch the bastard.
