    Hi Mike,

06101566 was a CKD vehicle. (Ie it came in a batch of 6 other series ones then assembed locally)
(06101567 It's sister vehicle in the same batch was sold on or around 31-3-1950 which gives you an idea of when it was assembed in australia)

The long time between the Dispatched Out date and when it was actually sold is mainly because 1566 is an early CKD vehicle and the CKD factory would have been only just starting to assemble vehicles like this. These very early CKDs can be quite interesting as sometimes they can have "Quirks" Eg. Pop rivets in the wrong places or Bulkhead/ID Badges put on at the wrong spot. Even in somecases no chassis number stamped on the chassis.

    Dispatched out: 1-9-1949

    Hi Richard

I think you will find that Butlers Ltd were a company making automotive lamps in competition to Joseph Lucas Ltd during WW1 and the inter war years they were eventually bought out by Joseph Lucas Ltd. You still find reproduction of Butlers fittings for sale with companies like Holden's Vintage and Classic. You also find the Butlers lamps on commercial vehicles and tractors, so maybe Lucas used the Butlers brand as the low end market and the Joseph Lucas "King of the Road" as the brand fitted to the more exclusive vehicles.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Here is a photo of the proper lucas headlight .

The Lucas part numbers for 48-49
    head light 50124
Rim and glass 552261 Originals are still available at Dunsfold

You will see the glass is dead flat with vertical ribs and the retaining ring is has a square edge.

On the Butler lights the glass is curved and the retaining ring is rounded

He did say the 6 from last 3 digits ...604...was difficult to read and could be a 7 or a 5.
