    half shaft spline wear

Thanks for all the advice so far regarding my back axle rebuild
    .
I note that there is some wear in the splines. How much is too much? Are mine OK to use?

Phots attached (first two are left second two are right)

    No worries

    Russ

They look to be fine to use , to me anyway

You will find that 99% of series ones will have worn half shaft splines to some degree , as in your pics, but it isn't a critical thing to worry about . Use them

    marked splines

If you only use your series one or twice a month, they will be fine.

On the other hand if your are going to use your series as a daily driver, doing a good distance each day and want to keep doing this for the next ten years, then buy a pair of new axles and keep the others as spares.

A lot of those marks are caused by the side gears in the diff having worn thrust washers.

I believe that axles can be ordered from Hi-Tough as well.

Mind you, if it's not going to break the bank, it certainly wouldn't hurt to get new ones. Every little bit helps to tighten up the driveline....

    Thanks to all above.

I don't plan to use the 86 as a daily driver.

I had planned to use as much of the car as it came as practical.

I have already had advice from many to use s2 axles, which is the plan if my s1 ones are BER.

I'm still at the 'survey' and learn stage.

    Hi Russ

Just realized you may have semi floating half shafts as you have a 86", the fully floating half shafts were mostly fitted to the 88" and the 109' series one's.

Those numbers I posted are for the fully floating type half shaft's. Which type do you have?
