another one biten by dodgy waterpumps

Yet again the cr#&#Y third world waterpump strikes again...
"JUST SAY NO" don't do it. this one missed the thermostat housing by 4 mm at least{4 mm shorter than my alloy boddied one} they must be made for another rover or a knock off car.
    Disgruntle? ??????
You bet , was just filling prior to starting a new engine....

    hi Mark

The repro cast iron pump I bought fouled on the timing cover, I had to grind the pump body down to make it fit .. I read about this problem on other forums, so I was prepared for it

I rebuilt a original alloy pump.... I used a 5/8 mechanical seal, the type the bearing shops sells, they use them in swimming pool pumps and fire pumps too - they have a white ceramic face . I machined up an adapter sleeve to fit it into the LR housing ..it works great ..no leaks so far, after many hours of use . I didnt use the original impeller, I used a chevy one ( same diameter as the original impeller ) . The seal actually runs in reverse mode to the original setup ... The bearing itself is a generic 5/8" shaft , you can buy them at BJ bearings and cut them to size ( length ) ..but there are some bad quality bearings around made in Taiwan . they cost about $20

So, are these new 8 bolt reproductions problematic? I am about to order one...
