At least 1951-1973 according to this:

I believe i got hold of a brass A & T lubrication specification plate off a badly stuffed 50 model radiator support panel
the brass plate is in very good nick btw
but i notice that for the diffs steering relay and transfer case etc etc they recommend Castrol Hipress SAE 140 oil not SAE 90
and SAE 50 engine oil in the gearbox not SAE 90
anyone know when A & T started being a distributor?

Those oils were the norm for the time. A&T were distributors very early in the life of the LR product, very early 50's until June 30 1973 when Leyland Truck and Bus Dvn. assumed distributorship (and retail operations in Brisbane. Don't remember if T&B were retailers elsewhere).

i am more specifically chasing info about when A&T started putting these plates on vehicles as i don't recall seeing another lights behind the grill radiator support with the badge or the holes for the badge.
on my 55 they replaced the original rover co plate.
on the unit i removed this from it was beside the rover co plate.
so in a sense i am trying to find out if it is legit i suppose or whether it may have been attached if it was resold thru the dealership as a second unit later etc etc

My '55 has it as a replacement.
(Shhhh being well cared for in Melbourne)
My ex-RACQ, Annand & Thompson 1951 had the plate butwill check tonight what it specified.
There is a document on the Australian 1950 CKD vehicles which specifies A&T as one so one must assume they were the master distributor from 1949 at least. Will check that doc when I get home too and let you know the dates of the first batch deliveries.
Have you noticed that on A&T built vehicles from 1952 the chassis number is frequently on the LHS chassis rail and not on the engine mount as in other 80" or the spring hanger on 86"/107"?
Addit: Oops I don't need to check the plate tonight, it's in my Photobucket.

Hi Incisor,
Re the relevant plates, Annand & Thompson started to put their unique plates on land rovers from 1950, we are not sure of a start vehicle but it started in the fish plate/headlights behind the grill vehicles. The lubricant and dealer plates were the first ones.
The dealer one was placed over the redundant wiper hole on the passenger side.
1951 is when they added the Important Information plate, this lasted until the change to 86/107 and this plate became rectangle like the dealer plate.
All 3 plates carried on until the end of series 1 production.
As a sub note the dealer and Important Info plates lasted until about 1960 Series 2 production and the lubricant plate became a sticker on the gearbox tunnel.
Hope this helps some

The first group of two CKD Land Rovers to Annand & Thompson in the Solihull dispatch books is supposed to be: R06101685 and R06101686 which is unusual as a batch was usually six vehicles.
It's interesting that A&T would commence the important information plate in 1951 when my 1950 ex Grenville Motors vehicle was delivered to the end customer on 31/10/1950 with the NSW equivalent (below). And the image below apparently came off a 1949 model.

and mine is 06101688 despatched 'out' on 11/10/1949 to Annand and Thompson but wasnt a CKD apparently.
when i purchased it, it didnt come with the original radiator support which is why i am trying to get all the bits to get it back as it was...
