Well its a bit quieter with some flash tac ( roof sealant) stuck under the floor and seats to stop the vibration. I have pulled the exhaust manifold off easier than it looked once you loosen the side cover to get the lower front bolt out. Trying to get a gasket locally if possible any ideas?:)

Well had a big day tidying up my shed and now Borumbah has a home undercover . Its nice to work inside a shed and on carpet especially this time of year. I will have to get my manifold skimmed a bit to true it up .Should be able to get Davillak engine builders up the road t do that. Rover Tech have one gasket and may be able to get the others locally . :)

I use Loctite high temp silicone on the V8, it works really well, much better than the original gaskets,Quote:

Lucky Mike , I was given a nice second hand manifold today with the threads intact for the flange studs. Sandblasted, heat proof painted ,new studs and locktite in place all bolted up and now looks and sounds like a new one.:)
The manifold gasket is the same as the 6 cylinder but you throw a way the middle bit or keep it for a spare I can be trimmed and used in pinch. I was able to buy everything over the shelf here in Perth at 4wd spares in Welshpool for under $20 bucks. I used some of that high temp silicone as wel lto hold everything in place and give a good seal.

What a difference the new manifold and gaskets make no poping on deceleration idles better much quieter and smoother running. I drove peak hour Perth traffic up The Kwinana freeway this morning into the city with the new gear box it's a pleasure to drive. Everyone seems to give me a wide berth on traffic . No one cut in front lol.

Noticed a lose bolt at the rear top generator mount so tightened it up then the fan belt started to squeal . Hmmmmm loosened it off maybe belt to tight still squeal . Pulled the genny out bearing is U/S so drilled out the 4 rivets and pushed it out . Easy to find bearing and I will tap the holes where the rivets where and put in some bolts. Not much to these things windings look good Brushes have heaps left only 1 bearing and the rear is a bush. I felt up where the loose bolt was and the tube mount was also loose 1/4 whitworth. It looks like a spacer may be missing I think when I pulled the rear mount tight it pulled the belt out of alignment and that was causing the squeal but the bearing would have gone very soon anyway . The parts manual shows a couple of spacers numbers 16 and 26 can anyone tell me the dimensions of these and I can turn a couple up.

Well that was surprisingly easy a plan that went together. I tapped the rivet holes to take an M5 bolts . Bought a sealed bearing this morning for $5 and its all back together before the paint has dried properly . Still need to fit the spacers to line up the pullies . I didn't want to spend too much on this as I will fit a replica alternator for the CSR trip. Running a fridge and dual batteries will be to much drain on a 10 amp genny. Winter ,paint dries slow may haveto bake in front of the heater.

Been leaning over the guard all day sorting out the generator spacing. Even with the correct spacers stolen of the 88 the pullies where 3 mm out and causing the belt to make a noise. I added a few washers until a straight edge across the pullies had everything lined up. Easy you may think but took around 5 hours to finish. Once I pushed out the bolt with adjusting arm then it wasn't long enough 2 and 1/4 inch the book says but needed 2 and 1/2 to get the thread started. Once the front bolts are bushed up in line I had to bush up the rear mount as well or it tried to pull everything back out of square. Any way its all done and now runs quite as a mouse. No belt noise at all . I found a few nuts missing from my diffs while retrieving dropped bolts or spanners 4 in total . So checked all the diff bolts surprised to find several have come loose .
We are are taking the old girl for a picnic up in the hills tomorrow and give the new transfer and gearbox case a work out. Will post some pics of the hill climbs and swamps.
