Another series 1

I had a environmental disaster this arvo. Did an oil change and filter managed to do all this in the carpet in the shed without spilling a drop. Then started her up and I heard a squissssssing noise . Shut down looked under and there lays about 3 litres of Penrites finest 20 W 60 laying on the floor.:o when I replaced the filter I added a new rubber gasket as you are supposed to do. I pushed the gasket into place with a Tbar allen key. Then tightened her up not too tight don't want to strip anything. Apparently not tight enough to seat the new rubber gasket oil poured out from here. Then when I check the tension it was loose again. Retightened add another $30 of oil and problem solved. Then the clean up began we still have carpet in the shed only there is now a 1mx 1m square missing. Yes I did put oil on the seal before I pushed it in.

My Dad wasn't amused :censored: when he realised that a portion of the large amount of oil under the tractor running the flood irrigation pump was supposed to be in the tractors engine.

His workman at that time, had stopped what he was doing to have a long yarn with a farm equipment mechanic that in turn was supposed to be over servicing a neighbours baler, the workman was about to complete a oil change and hadn't got around to fitting the sump plug when he was interrupted.

The oil was carried to the tractor up in the paddock in the back of the farm's series one soft top SWB Land Rover in it's 200 litre/44 gallon drum with a hand operated oil pump, so as soon as the serviceman left, Dad's workman popped the pump nozzle in the tractor engine's filler neck and then started pumping.
He kept on pumping, stopping occasionally to check the dipstick, noting the oil wasn't showing yet, he went back to pumping some more and finally only stopping when he felt his boot was getting damp.

Back in WA after 2 weeks battling the weather in Victoria. Finished off my dual battery system in Borumbah today . So now I can travel with a cold beer or 24. If my tax cheque arrives as its supposed to I will be chasing a hood this week trying to get everything ready for the Landor trip. My only worry now is that I will have to work in September. Got to make hay while the sun shines I suppose .

Well i spent and hour or 2 under the old girl looking for a spot to hang a couple of extra tanks. Just in front of the rear wheel there is a good spot for a 40 litre tank each side. I drew up what i wanted and got my local sheet metal guy to cut and fold the pieces. Then my mate Graeme and i tidied them up and tacked then together. Tomorrow they go to an airframe welder i know to get zipped up. I have lots of hose and 2 spare fillers from my mulgo dual tank system i put on my 90 So cost is pretty low. I need to carry around 200 litresfor the CSR trip so 80 plus 45 under the seat is a good start.:) Got a quote on the canopy as well this week and fitted a Defender Cubby box centre console as well so its all comming together.:)

My tanks went off to Dave Craig in Bayswater today Dave used to be a Licenced aircraft titanium welder until a while back when he semi retired. I fitted my centre console its from A late model Defender ordered from Triumph Rover spares Adelaide cost $110 and arrived in Perth 2 days later. I also fitted a tow recovery point on the front spring hanger and it was hot in Perth today so i got a fan as well. :) Trying to find some one to make my frame for the canvas cover. I want a continous curve across the roof so water runs off and lugs that go through the canvas for a rack so i can carry a canoe etc.

Are you going to use a traditional canvas, or a more modern material?

I am going for the modern stuff same as Nigels with the 107 .material is reinforced and has small checks . Its pretty common on new canvas canopys. I want sides that unzip and roll up. We will be doing a lot of hot desert work and its nice to get a breeze through when sleeping in the back.
