    Hi Dave,

Had the same problem of the cracking with my 1949. Just cut the fractured area out carefully with a thin cutting blade in the angle grinder and welded a piece of the same thickness plate into the cut-out. Also mine had the recommended reinforcement done after this fracturing happened - see the relevant Service Bulletin about it. We replaced that also as it was a very rough farm job. Can't help you with the number as a lot of my stuff is in storage at the moment.

The reinforcement plate was either bolted or welded inside the footwell area reinforcing the whole area of the steering box bolts and the chassis attachment extension and down to the floor. The firewalls break up if tensioned by the chassis/attachment bracket bolts. Make sure you put suitable spacers between the chassis and the firewall bracket if it does not line up properly - fit spacers in any gap.

Dave I think I have a couple of these off my '55. If they are suitable and you want them, (and if I can find them) they are yours gratis.
I don't think they had the supressor tho.
They will never go back on the '55.

    Cheers,
    Terry
