    Rrc steel rim?

I'm thinking I've seen the old riveted rangie rims on a s1 ... Reason being I've got 205R16's on the car and a 6.5R16 spare..... Thinking it might be best to take a Rrc wheel outa the shed to the 65th rather than the dodgy old spare.....
I'm actually thinking of selling the wrangler tg's and getting 5 , 6.5 or 7r16 retreads...

What's the thoughts on optimum size, trade off between higher hwy speed and lack of lower gearing ? 6.5R 16 or 7R 16?

    What engine?

The max tyre size you can run on standard 231601 rims is 7.00 16 (185/100 R16).

205/80 R16 are roughly equivalent to 6.50 16 but are a little wide for the 5" 231601 rims but are used by a lot of people..

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    7r x 16

I have 750 x 16 and they are a bit too tall. Good on the flat but they ask too much on hills and don't feel right. I feel the car would do best speed with 7.00.

215r 85 16 are within 3mm of 7.00 and available. Federal Couragias with tubes 175$

Keep me posted on what you find.

Will do ... Due to the low speed and mileage I'm seriously looking at 7R16 retreads .at about 90 a tire...one Goodyear tg will cost me 350 bucks !!!
There's 7r16's advertised on fleabay at the moment Australian made as well

If S1 studs are the same as the majority of S2/2a studs, then they'll be fine, but late 2as had a larger nut (same overall size as Defender etc) on the early stud which would be preferable.

Cheers . Looks like I best get the tire pliers out... The s1 nuts are distinct from any rover ones I've seen ... Think ill change the spare today for a205R 16 of the rangie

Yes RRC rims will bolt up on a S1 with the original nuts, which should be 9/16th BSF with a taper on each end. Same nuts as S11

Incidentally, I have ex RR 205/16's on my 88 S1 on S1 5" rims and yes, they are a little wide but I haven't had any problems with them.
