My Series I is going to be in the movies!

My Series I got picked up today to be transported from the Adelaide Hills up to the Flinders Ranges to be in a feature film. It's called Emu Plains, and is being shot by the director that did Oranges and Sunshine (Jim Loach).

The story requires an old car that the male lead has to fix up and get going over the course of the film.

Originally they were going to film it at our farm, but things changed and it's going to be done in a studio, but they still wanted to use the little LR. The outdoor stuff is going to be filmed up in the Barossa and the Flinders.

They collected the old canvas top a few weeks ago to get it repaired (it had some big holes in it) so that will be much appreciated when I get it back.

Here it is on the way out, towed by a 6x4 Cruiser:

    Spudboy,

Great, the old girl looks like she's already a movie star, though it's a pity she had to be towed by a Land Cruiser!

Is that an original blue vehicle or has it been resprayed?

    Good luck with the movie.

As far as I know, it was originally a blue car, but it got a bit of a makeover in the mid 80's, so it might have changed colours. I have some before and after photos in an album from the original owner, so I could dig them up and see how it started out, but I think it was always that colour blue.

It is only in 'fair' condition, and has a lot of small dings and scrapes on the body because it gets used around the farm to cart wood/hay/animals/etc. It has lots of character though!!

I got a call from the vehicle wrangler today to inform me that the OH&S bloke on the film was not happy with the braking performance of my Series I.

It was considered a risk to the cast and crew. Not sure what they were expecting from 50+ year old car...

So they have installed a new master cylinder and new slave cylinders on all 4 wheels, so that was a win!!

2 more weeks of filming, and then it will come back to the farm. Also, they registered it so they could drive it on the roads (up in the Flinders) so it will come back with about 2 months of registration
