On a pushbike we always used to undo the nut a little bit then hit it with a hammer.

Maybe a G-clamp and a socket small enough to sit over the cotter pin.

Yeah, same here, just backed the nut off and smacked them with a hammer.

I backed mine off, smacked them with a hammer and buggered the threaded part forever!

Stage 2 was to drill a pilot hole into the pin; enlarge it as much as I dared and then drive the remains out, which worked; and then to make two new pins suitably coated in anti-seize.

Try heating the base of the pin with oxy-acetylene until dull red and tap the nut when it has just cooled to black; this may need several attempts to kill the rust inside,
