    Water pump problem

Have fitted new water pump to a 1957 2lt motor, I am unable to get a seal between water pump and themo housing, have fitted new O ring, using old brass olive, have tried half a dozen times, Is there a small pipe between the 2 as the water pump is threaded, was not one there when I removed water pump.

    Water pump

No there is no pipe just the thick "O" ring and the copper inner.
I always fit it up with no thermostat or top pipe in place so you can make sure it all lines up, I also smear a little silicon on the "O" ring.
    Have always sealed ok.
The right "O" rings are available.

Hi Dennis , I have used new O ring with silicon, still no luck , have ordered new brass olive, I would have to say this is really start to get on my nerves , for a simple fix, it seems as if the water pump machined out bit is a bit to deep for the O ring to seal.

Lozza, it sounds as if you have bought one of the Indian pumps that I bought as well. Did you have to grind a bit off the case so it fitted and did you discover the wrong thread had been used somewhere on it?

I agree that the counter-bore is too deep - I put a washer, or two into the counter-bore and put the o-ring on top. I used sealant on the washers to stop water leaking past them; however; I haven't tested it yet!

Hi Charlie, I think you could be right, Treads to put fan on were different, have built up O ring with Ultru Blue, waiting for it to go off befor refitting

Just returned from a test run of about 15km, NOT A DROP. the Ultra Blue did the trick, You were right Charlie the machined bit was to deep.
