Procedure for removing Semi floating axel bearings!

Does anyone have pictures of their setup for pressing the collar, bearing, and housing off the rear semi floating axel? Anyone remember the actual pressure reached before the bearings moved?

I have a 20 ton press, hoping that is sufficient!

Mine had been welded on so I ground part way through them and split them to get them off then purchased new ones.
A local LR specialist claimed up to 30tons plus he had to use the oxy set to get some to move. Getting them back on is easier.

    Re-fitting.

I did as Colin did; grind almost through the collar with an angle grinder - it will go blue when you have gone far enough - place it on a solid surface such as an anvil and give it a belt with a large cold chisel and a 2kg hammer. Wear eye protection just in case! The collar should split and become loose enough to slide off.

When pressing the bearing off I used two support plates under the brake backing-plate to make sure it didn't bend.

I don't know how much pressure we used but I did use a very large press at the engine-reconditioner's workshop; it helps to have two pairs of hands,

    Cheers Charlie
