    dear rivet counters

    Hi
    for what it's worth
    I have seen old photo's
rivets on bonnets, doors around door handles, roof holding front galv nose were put in after painting.
To get a correct answer, I suggest contacting Mike Bishop in UK, Mike is a font of knowledge
    cheers

    Thanks Ian.
Looking at John Taylors 107 SW photo on page 14. The bonnet rivets look the same as the door and roof nose rivets so are unpainted.

I asked this question on LRSOC and Mike Bishop replied " All painted, assembled then painted, with slight overspray on the underside around the edges."

    So contradicting statement.

This may only apply to Wagon bonnets and fittings however we wanted to know if all other 86", 88", 107", and 109 bonnets should be the same.

    Paint or not to paint

Every original S1 I have inspected supports what Mike stated, painted over rivets but not painted underneath just overspray, even on an original where all the paint has worn off if you look around the base of the rivets you will see paint. Unpainted rivets on doors as panels painted before fitment.
