Background Information on Series 1 Needed Please

Hi. I'm just commencing a restoration on a 1958 107in Land Rover Series 1 I purchased a short time ago. I have researched the numbers on my Land Rover and am led to believe the engine is from a series 2. I am satisfied that the body/chassis is a genuine series 1 body. I can not match the numbers on any searches that I have conducted. The numbers are set out below if someone could provide me with any information regarding my Land Rover.

    Car number: 277600760
    Engine number: 151002652

    Thankyou in advance,
    Isaac Taylor

1958 SI. Are you sure it is a 107"? It should be a 109" by 1958.

    Hello Issac,

I have a list of engine numbers (cant remember where from) and I have that down as being from 1960 so that would be a series 2- unless anyone else knows differently.
    cheers,

    Car number 277600760 is a 1955 107 C.K.D R.H.D.
151002652 appears to be a 2.25L engine no.

Engine is a 2.25L OHV. The year model puzzles me as the small aluminium build date plate affixed in the cab is stamped 107 / 58. Will post photos shortly. Thanks for your help so far.

It's not unusual for bits from one Landy to be put on another regardless of model etc. photos will help those with keen eye to help you. The 107 was the first LWB and they added 2" to the front guards to fit diesel motors in making them 109" as the models went on. I think 56 was the first year of 109s so would be surprised if yours is a 58 107 but as I said I'm no expert.

An easy way to check age re chassis no is to use CALvin

Clifton Scientific Text Services, the Netherlands

It is a guide though. Make sure you use the number from
The chassis though not plates as people will swap/add/take them from car to car.

There is a lot of info to be had here and I'm SLOw sections

    Congrats on s1 ownership!

Your engine would originally have been fitted to a SII. This is a common enough conversion though. Did you read the chassis number from the chassis?

They moved the front axle 2" forward but extended the mud guards and bonnet by 1" only. The overall length of the chassis stayed the same. Dropping a S2 2.25L engine into a S1 109 is straight forward without any alterations to the chassis.
