Toe-In Adjustment - measure from where to where?
Gentlemen,
Sorry, this may be a dumb question, but I need to double check the Toe-in on my "53 S1 80" but it is not clear in the Work shop manual, where this measurement should be taken from.
Toe-in should be 2mm +-0.5mm but should this be measured from rim edge to rim edge (comparing the distance between the leading and training edge of the front wheels) , tyre edge to tyre edge or some other centre to centre?
As the amount of actual Toe-in will differ considerably depending on where it is measured, it seems odd that the manual is silent on this.
Thanks Jef

It may be relevant im not sure, but I have a 1967 ford and to do the toe in adjustment you do the following,
mark the centre of each front tyre and then centre the steering
measure 8 inches off a flat floor and mark each tyre on that centre line in front of the suspension. take the measurement from those marks and record,
then roll the car forward till the same marks on the tyres are the same height off the floor but behind the suspension.
take the measurement and see what the difference is and then adjust as needed,
Recheck and measure the same way.
Cheers Ean

This is similar to what Ean said. K
Jack up front of car & scribe a line around the center of the circumfrence of the tyre then put the car back on its wheels. You need to roll the car back & forwards a few times to settle the suspension then using a tape measure measure the distance between the lines at the back about 150 t0 200mm off the ground then measure the front at the same height. Your toe in or toe out is the difference detween the two measurements. So if the back measurement is shorter than the front it is toeing out.
