Hi Guys
Starting work again, hiatus ending. Only have to drop the boat trailer suspension de-rust, OH and replace.
In the meantime I have been accumulating bits from UK, the ones that the locals can't or won't supply.
Anyway with $A = 60p up to 62p this year it is a good time to buy. However, UK's cheaper prices get eaten by freight and the backhanders they get from the freight robber barons, TNT, DHL Fedex etc.
So looking for someone here in OZ who does canvas hoods and uses Wax Converters Textiles Canvas. (not cheap chinese crap) The Australian mfr of Perentie and Benz hoods who must use the Oz product, doesn't want to know.
The Exmoor product is excellent - has a good rep, but it is still a European canvas, not up to Aus UV.
So is there an Australian hood manufacturer? Google has been no help.
Cheers

Got mine from the UK just before Christmas ,
Frt was approximately $250. Made by the business that supplies Land Rover for their classic rebuilds. They supplied the door flaps, hand flaps, hooks and ropes as part of the kit, not added to the soft top price as extras for the 80". Tom has some nice accessorys to go with it as well.
Series 1
I get the impression that the Australia Army replaced their hoods regularly because they were attacked by UV but, to be fair, their vehicles would be outside 24/7
My Series III FFR had a hood with a semi transparent roof where it had been broken down by UV, no idea of course whether it was original or had been changed multiple times.
Do you intend to keep the vehicle stored outside ? If not I can't see the Exmoor canvas being a problem.
I haven't heard of an Australian hood manufacturer/motor trimmer but I'm sure I've seen mention of people getting them made here. You just need a good canvas worker and an old one as a pattern (access to the vehicle would also help). Problem is they may not easily be able to source the correct buckles etc.

My 3 man tilt cost 317 pounds which included the 58 pounds freight from Craddock's ( Exmore Trim Tilt ) came with TNT & took less than a week. I have always found Craddock's freight cost the cheapest . That was in 2012 though . I just bought a complete exhaust system from them from the engine to the back including exhaust manifold the freight was 130 pounds.![]()
Thanks all.
Will do the Exmoor product, they do the bows as well. Will try to avoid the robber baron freight and get it sent royal mail and/or sea.
Pity, I do try to purchase local product if possible and if reasonably competitive. Wax Converters Textiles make the canvas fabric here. Were on Macca a little while ago. Apparently only canvas/fabric manufacturer left. Make all the ADF's "field" fabrics, and cammo for uniforms, webbing, packs etc.
Cheers

You will need to make sere you are under $1000 or you will be hit with GST , Import duty & custom charges . In some cases it is cheaper to do two orders , the two lots of freight can be cheaper than the taxes.![]()
