1-2 fuel pump removed and dismantled looks better then i thought it would be and the diaphragm moves up and down as it should when depressing the arm.
had a used repco elec fuel pump fitted temp and worked ok, managed to force fuel up to the bottom of the carb which was a good sign but no start yet just cranks. will give the fuel pump a clean and refit once more and see. still using the old spark plugs which seem to have spark, checked one or two.
Pump - check valves for stuck discs, broken springs, debris under the discs. When reassembling the pump, make sure the diaphragm is stretched before tightening screws or it will tear.
Just a thought , is your distributer shaft turning when you crank the motor over . Holden motors have a bad habit of striping the fibre cam gear which would stop the cam from turning this would stop it starting & the pump to not work.[bighmmm]
yes checked the shaft for the dist is turning upon cranking.
pretty sure the fuel pump is fine but nevertheless the elec one hooked up temp is pumping fine and right up to the carb
1. pic of the spark plugs, replaced old with new
2. leak from bottom of carb, pulled apart for a quick view and put together, leaking from bottom shaft hard to see in pic.
have to try again just got to stop the extra fuel pouring out the bottom of the carb and should be good to go
other ideas are the spark plug leads and or the dist points which could be a problem. cheers
Electric pump may have too much pressure causing neadle valve to open if so may need pressure regulator . Also check neadle valve is not worn & the float level.
Disconnect the fuel and give it a squirt of 'start ya bastard' - if it fires you know you have a fuel related problem - if it doesn't fire you are none the wiser but the test is quick and easy.

Is that short hose at the base of the carby been blanked off so you are not loosing vacuum.Quote:

It should be blanked off if not needed . I would say it is part of the anti polution system for the holden motor . If I remember correct the hose from the PCV valve goese on there . Correct me if I am wrong . If it is not blanked off or connected to the PCV valve you will be loosing vacuum through yyhere so carby will not be able to suck enough fuel through the jets.
Just looked it up & yes that is were the PCV valve hose connects .

2. quick engine wash down with degreaser and rinse
plugged off that hole from the base of the carb. quick rinse to get oil and crap off the engine. not power washed. going down to buy some 'start ya bustard' and see if this makes any difference, fingers crossed. new spark plugs installed. really hoping this time will start.
