I think you will find there are pins on both sides - makes the shoes the same for both sides.

yes there are pins on both sides of each shoe, i was placing the springs in the wrong location now all sorted. checked d/side all good.
1. remainder of the bits left over from the old brake system, prob bin them all
2. as the LR sits now with all 4 tyres on, cranked her over and starts but idles a bit too fast played around with the settings trying to get her to idle at a lower rev.
brakes just need bleeding but that can wait for now. want to sort out the steering next, those damn ball bearings fall out after they have been installed in the steering box. will try again my question is if there is no oil in the box and i turn the steering would that cause the bearings to fall out???

Your question about the holes on the lower dash? Choke and hand throttle.![]()
Idling smoothly now, played around with the settings and am chuffed, running like a kitten, little bit of smoke coming from the manifold exhaust hopefully nothing to be concerned about, it is an old engine after all, not sure if this smoke will disappear with a proper exhaust mounted on or when run in a bit longer having sat around for a number of years. should i be concerned about this??? cheers
did some odd jobs today, tub bolted into position though the rear cross member welded by prev owner was out of alignment, adjusted firewall and door gaps are as good as i can manage, rear end is almost complete bar the exhaust system. printed off the elec diagram for 86" then start looking at wiring of sorts. waiting on my ignition n key to come thanks to a contact from 1950Landy, thanks mate
thanks for all suggestions and Xtreme for his help on weekend with his kind donation of old series parts - i have already put one of your longer U bolts onto the LR, thanks again Xtreme
sorry first video is the wrong video (older version first start up with higher rpm at idle), jeez converting this mobile phone video (.mov) to aulro (.mp4) takes me ages
trying again 2nd video should be the most recent with lower idle speed, still need to engage that clutch to see if she will drive but may need to move her out of the garage first with no brakes and limited room inside the garage might be asking for trouble, fingers crossed that clutch n gears works as it should
GIVE UP, cannot upload a short video, spend hours trying to convert and upload and now it says files too big - its a .mp4 file and is 24.5MB big even though previous video was 52MB still uploaded

1. wanted something original and unpainted on the old girl so this was it the vent latch in original glory fitted
2. this seems like a dip switch for the headlights is this standard for a 86" or an aftermarket item?? these brackets got some paint forgot if they hold the front guards into position or the rear side tub??

Dipswitch - could be either original or replacement. It is not exactly like the one that was in my S1, which was an 88 anyway, from memory, but I'm pretty certain that there were several different ones fitted, and it is likely to have been one of the first bits supplied as local content in Australian built ones - most locally built cars had something very like this in the 1950s.

Are these gauges the same on all series, mines missing bits n pieces but could i fit a S2-3 instead if i cant find S1
1. speedo looks to be fine
2. I have a fuel gauge but missing temp and of course all the wiring which would have to be new anyway
