I find that a few coats of Primer Surfacer (Available from Auto One and similar but thinner that Primer Filler) with sanding between coats does wonders for smoothing out irregularities such as scratches or rust spots/depressions and is a good base for a smooth final coat or coats.

After all that I think I will stick with the original alum front rad support panel and ditch the idea of the S2 one

1. 80mm for the headlight clearance is way too much, so need to find a replacement headlight in a slimmer design or thinking outside the box here, make a housing to push fwd the headlight (not original) but will give me the clearance i need, or find the thinnest radiator and work with that

2. measurement for the sides and indication of the damage, might buy some L shape alum and fit as a inner support panel

3. measurement for me, the base is a wider panel required for repairs

4. proper 86" radiator stripped of headlights and grille and temp fitted to look at clearance behind the headlights

5. played around with the hoodsticks, the two brick high then stand in the centre gave me this small curvature, i think i need more

6. close up of above, looks to me its almost flat in the middle still, may need more bending in the centre (looks too flat) compared to other pics on internet

A long time ago, like 50years, when I was working as an electrician, I made a set out of galv. electrical conduit. In those days electricians had no trouble bending metal conduits to exact measurements.
Recently I repaired some hoops using the tubes of an old hills hoist. Don't remember any details.

These measurements are taken off the bow I have here , I am not sure if this bow has been made up by some one as it has been joined in the middle but dose look correct. From the top of the piece of wood on centre line of the two bolts to the out side of the curve is 180mm , from the bottom of the of the side legs to the centre of the bolts in the side is between 735 & 740mm, the pipes fit into the capping 90mm & total height from the bottom to the out side top of the bow is 910mm. That is the best I can give you from what I have , may be some one who has a similar vehicle to yours could verify . It is a little hard getting measurements from the bow I have as it has a twist in it . Also yours should have a washer at the bottom to stop it going into the capping too far as the drawing with clamps to hold into the capping.
A friend of mine when he ordered his bows from the UK got them to cut them in half to reduce the size of the package which reduced the cost of freight then fitted a spigot in the pipe & welded them back together again when they arrived.

thank you all for your feedback. will have another look at the hoodsticks given more measurements. would love to buy new but at $1000 new for the seats, hoodsticks and hood (canvas), that is over $3000. canvas will be new though.

1. found some piece of alum i had lying around and so made up some supports for the sides which ultimately bolt up to the guards

2. rivet into position either side

3. bottom needed a wider alum piece but was on a roll so just pushed on, all three sides now have L shape alum supports

4. found this non original contraption which bolts up to the bracket for the firewall, which was used to link the carby and the throttle, cleaned up and painted thought to re use this to link my throttle control, bolts to the p/s

5. thought why not paint and be done with these mods to the rad support panel so at least that is done for now till i source out some new lights.

1. look what finally arrived today, my part of exhaust system from UK by DHL

2. tail pipe into position and onto the new brackets which all looks original because it is all original ...

3. muffler which is part of the tail pipe in position as well and horizontal

4. middle exhaust system seems to be falling towards the ground not sure if i have installed correctly, need to look up internet pics or as there is no weight on the front it has dropped, all bolts are loose for now.

5-6. Trying to figure this bracket out for the throttle, fits in the position well, need to work out the linkages
