    hand brake work

    1. so decided to do a simple fix like the handbrake but was bigger then i thought so first off - found a longer spring and cut to length now the push release button works like new - wrapped

    2. here is the gap where the handbrake does not reach far enough to lock or engage with the teeth - problem to my handbrake issue

    3. had a good look at the lever and thought at first maybe the end has worn down not reaching but seemed ok

    4. looked closer at these teeth to see for excessive wear but all good here

    5. undid the two bolts and shifted slightly fwd and back no help - only needs a few mm to engage with the teeth so then ...

    6. thought was to drill out or elongate these holes to allow the entire mechanism fwd but could not find a drill to be able to drill these holes out bigger - must have blunt drill bits or its tough steel

    7. final option why not drill out the chassis point (elongate) then my cordless went flat ...

    I think this will work and hopefully engage, cant really easily extend the inner rod which was my other thought.

    The ratchet bit is hardened is why it would not drill. Check whether the lever pivot is bent or distorted or worn, as this will also affect it.

    exhaust flange

    1. flange and its gauze type fitting is secured using sealant to help hold out any air (exhaust) fumes, so set aside to dry till i fit.

    Handbrake will not reach - simple. Driving me mad, have tried all things and the two parts do not come in contact with one another to act as a ratchet. I can only put it down to wear which has made the gap wider now for a solution ???

    more updates

    1. BSF you gave me an idea - why not make my own with a longer bit. found some thick enough steel lying around cut out with grinder then used the original as a template to drill the two holes thru

    2. not pretty but bolted up and it works a treat just like new, push button and all. this allowed me to screw down the seat base middle panel BUT i still need to sort out the bottom of the handbrake connection which is out of alignment, more to come

    3. middle panel screwed into place - was dying to put this in and finish the look of the interior - loving the look

    4. pass side view of all three seats in place - seat backs and seat bottoms

    5. driver side view - what a relief this interior is now just about complete.

    next will be to finish off that damn exhaust system...

    You will find that the ratchet and pawl were made very hard for a good reason. If you are not very careful applying and releasing the handbrake, that pawl will not last very long. (Assuming you did not harden it!)

    As well as what you've done to the handbrake mechanism, I'd also eliminate much of the sloppiness that is evident where the rod attaches to the ratchet pawl. Simply drill another hole in the rod and put another split pin on the other side of the ratchet pawl, better still if you also put a washer on each side between the pawl and each split pin. This will stop the pawl tending to slide around the bend in the rod.

    You may even find that the original (hardened) pawl will then work OK.

    exhaust coming to an end

    1. exciting times for me anyway when the two halves of the exhaust system coming together to be one unit. obviously the left pipe will come up to meet the other end and some welding later should be good to go. cant wait.

    2. here is the other end cut to size, measured everything twice or even three times, the downpipe got some more bends in it to accomodate the chassis and touching points around the vehicle so next up is to weld the two halves together and refit properly, start the vehicle and see if there is a reduction in engine noise and no air leaks anywhere, here's hoping anyway

    exhaust music to my ears

    1-2. New exhaust finally welded into position, cant tell you how many times i had to remove and bolt up in position to get the final fitment but its done, you little ripper is sitting slightly lower then i wanted but good enough for me

    3. proof exhaust fumes coming out the back, no air leaks to report, seems quieter as well, thank god that job is done.

    4. had to throw the pass side guard on, just for looks not bolted up at all. but this has caused one minor problem

    5. bonnet latch mechanism fouls on the inner side of the radiator support panel, so may need to move or use something else to prop the bonnet open, started to rain so finished off with just placing guard on for now

    6. and this is how she sits/looks - cannot say how happy i am that the exhaust is sorted and cant wait to get her closer to driving her up the road for a test drive... now time for a shower..
