I would say one is for stop lights , one for tail lights & the other is earth. There wern't many vehicles with indicators back then & most had traficators
Anyone got one of these[small circular socket with rubber bung on a chain] about a size between a 10 and 20 cent peice?B2753BBA-98EF-4FF5-B820-5096F170220F.jpg

From what I can see they only operate blinkers...now I can’t see that towing a small trailer in a s1 with blinkers and a trailer with blinkers and no brake light will go down well with the police[although I have got away with buggered trailer lights where the blinkers and brake lights were easily visible over the load when towing in an s series valiant ....but]
No idea if you can get the plugs for these, although I have got the banana plugs and 2 pin plugs for the dash panel 12 volt accessory sockets, might be a possibility to run 12 volts [fused] back to the rear crossmember
Any other thoughts on a use for the plug?

I'm not sure how many pins the original trailer socket had, there is still one on the rear crossmember of my Series I but there is also a 7-pin modern round one.
I'd think that someone has added this 'in period', the idea of earth, brakes & tail lights makes sense so yours has possibly been modified.
You can get a replica rubber 5 pin but you may need to take out a bank loan Land Rover Series 2 2a 3 Lucas Quality Repro TLC5 5 Pin Tow Towing Plug & Socket | eBay

I am pretty certain my Series 1 had a five pin rubber socket, but I never had a plug to fit it. As noted above, it would have been tail, stop, earth only - blinkers (and trafficators) were not legal in Australia during most of Series 1 production, and were not fitted to new Landrovers in Australia until well into Series 2a production. And I have never seen a Series Landrover with trafficators except one or two at Cooma, although I have seen pictures.

In Queensland if blinkers were fitted to a vehicle it was illegal to use them until about 1961. Trafficators were never legal. Hand signals were required. Very small trailers like those Lightburn trolleys originally did not have any lights.

I've got the remnants of a 3-pin plug on the back of my 80". The parts are listed on the 'chassis' page in the 80" parts manual. The socket is listed on the 'Brockhouse ' trailer page.

Yea question is how to best use it sans brockhouse
I wonder if I wired up a tiny home made trailer the with of a s1i could get away with it...
The car needs no blinkers...easy to run a seperate brake line I guess and us the earth and two power lines to the blinkers....there such a cool little plug seems that what little electricity a s1 produces for it to just end on the rearcrossmember
