At last the adventure begins to move forward.
After stripping off the body and suspension on the 1953 Series 1 80" , Paul and I power cleaned and sand blasted the chassis, transmission, all suspension parts and plated about a million nuts, bolts and U clamps and bits. Green and Gold are definitely my colours.
That little task took us 5 full days.
She came back together quite nicely, and what a joy to work with lovely clean and shiny parts.
Head and Block were blasted to remove old paint, (with due care not to damage any surface) . Both are off at Performance Modifications in Perth for a full measure and work-over.
No room at Paul's so Chassis back onto her wheels, and headed back to my place on the truck. On arrival a total stranger driving by stopped to enquire about the nice shiny Series 1 on the truck. He just happened to be passing, so stopped to help get her off the truck, down my rather steep driveway and onto the hoist.
Land Rover people are such gentlemen and always pleased and willing to help.
Looks Great.
My 53 restoration wont be moving along that quick.
I am interested in the bar across the front of the chassis, sitting on the dumb irons ???? (pic 3)
My chassis has rust pitting, suggesting something sat on it, and I was wondering it might of been..
Thanks
Goo to see you have taken the bar that someone welded on top of the chassis to stop the guards flapping. I put an alum flat down under the guard were the guard bolts to the radiator panel , it can't be seen unless some one sticks there head under the guard , a good thick coat of sound deadening Also made ones up for were the guards bolt to the bulkhead , worked a treat.
Yes, the bar that some past owner had fitted to strengthen the front guards had to go. It was ugly and non original.
If necessary I will add a little additional strength to the under side of the guards to stop an y unwanted movement.
