I am pretty certain that the original filter was a bypass filter, that is, connected between the main oil gallery and the sump, rather than a full flow filter between the pump and the oil gallery. As such it needs to have a flow restrictor to prevent almost total loss of oil pressure to everything else - the filter you have fitted is designed to have as low a resistance to flow as possible.
But I am afraid I cannot comment on the desired aperture of the restrictor. Hopefully someone else can help.
