Good to hear you're on the mend. So would one of the usual culprits include ignition timing? If it's retarded the exhaust manifold will get hotter. A dwell meter and a timing light will help to get things right.
Cheers, Rob S
Howdy folks,
i managed to get down the slope to the shed (and back again) for the first time in months following some health issues withe the knees and eyes! Not a great combination.
The series 1 fired up second or third time, not having run for a couple of years following one of my fiascos fitting new points .
Just a warning to you all , it seems to be running pretty hot on the exhaust side , so I’ll check out the usual culprits and then might start asking some dumb questions!
Apologies to anyone who has replied to any of my posts that I haven’t answered back. It’s been a rough old time.
Good to smell the petrol again though!
Cheers,
D.

Thanks mate,
i suspected timing but am no expert but managed to find the inspection plate on the fly wheel case for the timing marks but what I’m looking at didn’t appear to match the pic in the series 1 instruction manual. I’m wondering if the pic isn’t showing the 1957 version. It’s all pretty gloomy in the shed so when I can sort out some good lighting I’ll have another crack at it. Thanks for the tip with the timing light etc, I had not thought of that.
