I see a little bit of light green on the bulkhead.
Rather difficult to say whether it is 1949 or early 1950.
    • The whole body has been painted and so the silver on the chassis comes under suspicion whether it's original or not. (Particularly when the rear chassis handles have been painted silver also.)
    • Yes it has a fishplate chassis - which makes it 1948, 1949 or early 1950.
    • It doesn't have a removable tow plate - which makes it 1948, 1949 or early 1950.
    • It has an opening vent in the windscreen, which points towards it being a 1950 or possibly late 1949 model.
    • It looks to have tubed PTO mounting holes which mitigates against it being an early 1948.
    • It has rope cleates welded to the corner capping which mitigates against it being a pre 861500 1948.
    • Also it has a top hat section on the tailgate which again mitigates against it being an early 1948.
We know that many of the post 861500's 1948 models were actually built in 1949, so without a chassis number the best I feel we can say is that it's earlier than mid 1950.

Series 1 LWB 2 door Hardtop??????????

howdy everyone, came across a weird one yesterday
spotted this vehicle on the way to work and have been meaning to stop in and have a look.
its a series 1 long wheel base 2 door station wagon.
it has a full length roof that looks original, but it doesnt have the alpine windows in it along the top sides ?

we got the chassis number and it actual identifies it as a series 2 1960 model chassis.... but the body is definitely a series one.
i havent got any pictures yet, but im going back this week end to have a better look. hopefully the owner wont mind if i take a couple of pictures

it has what looks to be a land rover 6 cylinder motor in it ? or some sort of rover motor anyways. It has an auto hooked up to it with a column shift set up. YIKES!!!!!! And the transfer lever has been moved to the right hand side of the drivers seat beside the door.
    it looks so strange.......

has anyone heard of a 2 door panel type configuration in the series 1 107/109" wheel base ???? it has 2 windows either side of the hardtop, but its hard to tell if they were there originally or not

im pretty sure it'll be a 109", guessing that they have some how swapped it with a series 2 chassis.... i'll measure it when i go back

More will be revealed when we get the photos, does anyone have any ideas in the meantime?

Its clearly a "bitsa" - and it won't be a 107 wheelbase if it's really an S2 - S2's only came in 109 for the LWB version, and S1 station wagons only 107. The chassis number will also identify the wheelbase too though. And I didn't think S1's had a 2 door LWB station wagon either. I reckon they were all 4 door. Plus, a S1 station wagon body will also have a safari roof. What makes you think it's a S1 body?
