Sorry Digger, I have been a bit pre-occupied with my 80” and have failed to follow up on a couple other ‘very interesting’ items that cropped up when I initially found these 3 x Series 1’s at Doug’s place.

I have asked Doug about the Series 2 Fire Tender and know that it belongs to a friend of his in/near Holbrook. Being very keen to at least take a look at it; I have asked him to find out if I am welcome and then put me in contact with the person who owns it… I have not followed it up but I shall find out. Photos will be a must if I am successful in taking a look at it. My initial understanding was that this bloke may be interested in selling it and I was going to offer putting it on the forum for sale. I don’t know much else and may be proven wrong – will have to wait and see.

Now with the ‘yard of spares’ – we have pretty well cleaned out what was located on Doug’s place and I am in the process of meeting the next bloke who has more Series 1’s and (fingers crossed) PTO gear. As I have been spoilt at this farm I have not pushed things when it has come to meeting the next bloke. Doug does know that I am (as he has said) ‘mad-keen’ when it comes to Series Landy’s and is aware that I want some PTO gear in particular, so I was just going to wait a bit. He reckons that this Fella has a number of old Landy’s which could be very good. I shall be seeing Doug in a couple of weeks and will be asking him again then. And I promise that I shall put up some photos….

I can now add a little bit more to this . Doug has now taken a look at what had been described as a 'yard of series 1 spares' and has confirmed that they are series 2 / 2a. Bit of a shame really but something to put away until I need something for olmate.

He has told me that he is onto the 2A Fire Tender and shall (hopefully) find out more in the following weeks. It belonged to the (his) local CFA in previous years and was retired to a shed on a property near Holbrook. Since this time the place has been sold off to the forrestry dept and the vehicle is now left just to waste away - it seems. He had recently had a visit from a friend up that way who confirmed that the Landy was still in the spot where it was left but knew nothing about its pump etc. Doug will be up that way in the next few weeks and shall try to get out to where it is and find someone who can let me know what is going on with it.

Many thanks for putting us onto the Bronze 86", have just returned from collecting it.
It will provide some useful spares for my S1, the bulkhead looks usable, not sure yet about the engine & gearbox until I start unbolting things.

Saw a Series 2 shorty (may have been a S3) in a trailer heading down the Hume being towed by a Disco and I'm sure I saw JDNSW joining the Hume at Albury.
Heading back home we got a lot of heads turning as cars passed and the occasional thumbs up from passengers.

Don't you find it interesting, I don't think I have ever seen an early Land Cru... being towed for an apparent restoration.

At the NRMA motorfest on Aussie Day, we even had a bloke come up and ask if he could join tthe LROCS and get historic rego, he made the comment that no one in the TLC Club seemed to have any interest in old Toy...s.

So have you got the 80" home yet?

The 'Bronze' Series 1 turned out to be green that had faded to bronze, maybe that's why they call it bronze green ?

Engine rotates and there's oil in the gearbox although the filler cap has rusted through so there may be water inside. Chassis has been straightened after an accident, steering box has rusted solid.

Haven't checked chassis number to determine the manufacture date yet so a quick question regarding the engine, can you determine whether it's a spreadbore engine or not without taking it apart ?

I'll put any parts I don't need in Markets once she's stripped down.

The paddock full of spares still sounds good anyway (says me with 3 of them!) any hope of a set of hoops??? or maybe tool holders????

The fire tender sounds good anyway, wayne ellard is pretty spiff with them, his 2 are fairly schmiko so he may be able to give advice or if its knackered utilise parts!

Hello Colin,

Yes you can there are many ways. Where is the Exhaust outlet on the exhaust manifold in the middle or towards the front of the engine? Also you can tell by the oil filter. Early 2.0L engines still had the Bypass oil filter system carried over from the 1.6L Engine. The later 2.0L engine has a full flow system. And the filter should look like this:
