i might be able to help get some st38 (pork pie stop lights) please tell me whitch bits you need and i will hunt around here. BEN
I have posted this in ebay finds but I also think the prices being asked for these is worthy of discussion. Land Rover series 1 NOS Pork Pie rear lights - eBay Other Lights, Indicators, Lights, Indicators, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 23-Nov-08 20:54:33 AEDST) I appreciate the price being asked is probably not all that abnormal given their rarity, however for what they are the price being asked by suppliers is over the top.
Does any one have a secret supplier of these that does not charge the earth
My Baby 88 has one rusted housing and the station wagon has one also but no internals or lenses - I might be able to use these as patterns to make two metal bodies with some modern internals. The lense is more problematic but I have recorded photos wherever I can so either use something similar or make something from scratch using some sort of craft methodology.
These fittings, based on something similar should only be about $50-$80 each but they are always in the order of $500-$700 a pair as this ebay seller is asking - I am not complaining about the e-bay seller as the price seems in line to what has been asked in the past.
It is just a bit rediculous when the tail lights are almost half the price of the vehicles.

Agree Garry,
As I mentioned on the other thread it would be nice to put the original type on. ...But....just too $pensive to justify.
I am surprised there are not repro's available - searched around UK sites but can't find too much.
I was thinking of putting some D lights on which although aren't the right type but do look the part.......Although the series 3 lights I have work fine too.
Think I'll save my money for other bits - pto, capstan, heater which are probably more useful!!
Geez I'd hate to break one of those pork pies with a bit of careless reversing
Watching this thread with interest.
Don't usually post here as I don't have a S1 (yet). I'm sure one of the hot-rod shops around the place could make re-pro ones given a good-enough sample and I'm sure i found a place in brissie that can make lenses to supplied spec, again one of the hot-rod mobs. i'll ask the hot-rod crowd and see if they can help.
Still think this would be way cheaper than the $500-$700 asked for originals.
hope this helps, the more oldies on the road the better IMO
mate with a cadillac had taillights made from scratch

I will watch with interest. I'd be after a pair of complete assemblies.
David Azzopardi in Sydney makes lenses for muscle cars etc. may be able to help with lenses for the pork pies. Google will find it easy. hope this helps, still trying to find that hotrod bloke who can make metal housings from scratch will post it when I find him again.
Reproduction Pork Pie lamps are available for £150 GBP /pair + shipping to members of the Land Rover Series One Club (UK).
