My 1955 86" Restoration Project

Gday,

My name is Chris i'm from Melb, Victoria. I'm here to share my resto project on my 1955 Series 1 SWB. It was purchased in Feb 06 from a fella who owned it for 40 years. Its first 10 years of life was used by a company "Goldfields Diamond Drilling" around the Ballarat - Bendigo area in Victoria.

I got plenty of spares with the vehicle when it was purchased items such as; doors, bonnet, gearbox shafts & gears, wheel studs & nuts, o/s brake drums & shoes, pto, + a container full of BSF & Whitworth nuts and bolts.

Here begins a Long Haul Restoration project which is currently in progress today 3 years later. Hope you enjoy the post, i have lots of pics and will update it on a daily basis for all to read.

Goldfields Diamond Drilling door sign un revealed after slightly rubbing the door back with some wet & dry sandpaper!

Also another interesting piece, those spare doors i got with the purchase of the landy also had print on the door
"Gas & Fuel Corporation of Victoria, 196 Flinders Street. Melbourne"

Remeber the two old buildings where FedSquare is now?

Air Cleaner - Oil Bath Type don't think this is Landrover might be Holden as my Landy has a 186 in it.

Thanks for the pictures - a nice original little landy, it amazing with the some of the history attached to these older vehicles.

In the first picture has it got a front mounted winch or am I seeing things.

hi Wayne, yep thats a front mounted winch you see there, as Picked up by Diana in a previous post a while back on the Yahoo Trans Tasman series 1Register, she mentioned that particular winch is made from an aeroplane starter motor with reduction gears. It was big and heavy i didnt decide to keep it.

i rekon i should have tried to winch it up a tree like in that film "The Gods Must Be Crazy" hehehehe

Good luck with the restoration. Lots of knowledgeable people and plenty of info here. Keep the pictures coming.

Mine has a holden motor (202) too - although I'm looking for a 2 litre to return it to original.

What's the thing on the grill - a siren?

yep electric fan, hehehe yea it does look like a siren. but i tell ya it does cool better than a thermo fan but i wont put it back on after my resto is complete a thermo fan will do fine.

nearly a rolling chassi, all the parts were photographed, placed in bags and labelled ready for refurbishment and reassembly later in the project.

now its ready for repairs
