    Cleaning LR badge

Whats the best way to clean and paint up the LR badge. I have removed the front LR aluminium badge and soaked overnight in vinegar and will lightly sand down the face. I am planning on painting it all black and then re sanding the face to reveal the alum writings. Is this the best way. What has worked for you. cheers

    Sounds like a good plan.

If you use an aluminium safe paint stripper it will help and use an etch-primer on the bare aluminium before blacking it. Hi-Chem Super Etch is very good.

Interesting thing the colour of S1 badges; mine was bronze green with yellow letters and I have seen one in green with red letters,

    paint

Both are right for 80” it’s a date thing.
For the black badges I have had some luck by painting it all black then with lacquer thinners on a cloth slowly wipe the paint off the high bits.

    Paint

    Hi All
the above method is the way to go
    remove all old paint
    prime with etch primer
    good top coat of black
and when dry wipe the high spots with a rag and thinners
    the solid ally badge
similar, using green and paint the high bits with a yellow paint
have seen red use on some
perhaps some may know what colours were used on what
    cheers

Hi Iam sure the "cast" bages on the 1st of the 1948 80" were green back ground with red lettering then 1949 was a change to yellow lettering green back ground. I think it was around the very end of the 1950 year model is when they went to the pressed alloy badge they black back ground with unpainted lettering.
