    Annand & Thompson

    G'day All,

    I don't have a Series 1 Land Rover but I have several Series 2A's.

My question is about Annand & Thompson in Brisbane.

Does anyone know weather they sold series 2 & 2A's, as I have seen a few Series 1's with the brass Annand & Thompson plates, but until today I hadn't seen them on a Series 2 or 2A.

    Cheers

    Ben

No Annand and Thompson were in Newstead!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Newstead is the other side of Fortitude Valley

Annand and Thompson certainly sold Series 2/2a - I can think of several people who bought new from them, at least one I can date to 1965 (would be a 2a), and I was buying parts from them in the first half of the sixties.

I have never seen a brass plate from them though, possibly because I haven't looked for one, but it is quite possible they stopped fitting them at some stage.

Well I was generalising... Newstead is in Brisbane? Just interested in their history.

    Cheers

Unless things have been reorganised since last time I looked, Newstead is well within the area covered by Brisbane City Council, so calling it part of Brisbane is in my view, perfectly legitimate.

    Thanks JDNSW,

It appears to have a lot of Series 2 or early Series 2A fixtures. I wasn't in a position get any serial numbers unfortunatly.. They may have stopped adding the brass name plates early on?

    Cheers

Quite possible that they did. I don't know when they faded from the scene, but I have the impression they were still going when I moved to Melbourne in 1970, or certainly when I moved to PNG in 1969 (which is when I sold my 2a, and did not own a Landrover again until 1991).

They were distributors, in Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead, an inner suburb. Sold Rovers and Land Rovers for yonks. They ceased to be LR distributors in 1973 when Leyland Truck and Bus took over distribution. Leyland T&B ran the dealer network in Qld. and northern NSW and were the Brisbane retail outlet. A&T used to import direct (distributors), ran their own dealer network not all of whom were confirmed by Leyland T&B, and retailed from their Newstead premises. A&T used to have made the infamous "Hedges Hardtop" for Land Rovers, all steel and minimal rust proofing. We at Leyalnd T&B were given A&T's delivery & warranty record cards but these did not survive the 1974 flood when the Leyland building went some 20' under.
