If it is the same plate and gear as in a S2 then they should be easy to come by.

Thanks but not sure whether they are the same as in a s2. can anyone answer that one. are the gears and plates similar in a s1 55 model to a s2 when removal of the overdrive is involved. thanks

Pretty much all 1s, 2s, 2as, and 3s are the same, excepting of course those fitted with all-helical-cut transfers and Stage one V8s. Not sure about very early 80" though - I know some of them had different diffs but not sure what else.

You need a rear plate and bearing, a transfer case input gear and a new lock washer and a new gasket. (doesn't matter what brand overdrive)

The parts are the same for any Series Landrover except Stage 1 (not sure about the all helical gearbox in the 2b and One Ton, but I think they are the same even for them, as they are designed to fit the same PTO).

These bits should be readily available from anyone who has wrecked a Series Landrover, (except for the new bits) as apart form this change they would be rarely required.

You also need to get or make or borrow a spanner to fit the nut on the end of the gearbox shaft - I made one without a great deal of trouble. At a pinch you can probably get by using a brass drift, but it is poor workshop practice.
