That said, I have seen a number of 1949 early 1950s with another type of horn which had a vertical louvered face with some sort of design (in my memory I have an image of an indian head). Sorry no pics ATM, but it makes me wonder if they were common after-market horns of the period or possibly fitted as part of the Australian content rules that were coming in at that time.

If the front of the horn you are thinking of was convex and chromed, then yes, they were common aftermarket horns in the early postwar period. I can't remember the picture on them. It is possible that both your speculations may be correct - they were common aftermarket ones, which means they could be supplied off the shelf to increase local content, and I suspect that at this time Rover was less concerned about keeping vehicles the same everywhere than they became later. (Although this aim was never achieved)
