I am assuming all the 88 had the holes perminatly there for the capstans, but the early ones didnt (thye used the nut-serts or riv-nuts)
you will have years of fun with it.....

Well there you go - as our 86 didnt have them and when I fitted the capstan I had to put them in.

Well - big Sunday spent in the shed with Matilda's brakes.Checked them over - rears all good - changed the front 2 cylinders - will replace front 2 hoses (I'm going to put back what came off - ie male female) and shoes - just waiting on parts.
Then just a few little bits and pieces - then rego here we come!

Hi Dan, just a thought since you said that body and diffs are 88" from a 1957 & that you have a 86" chassis.
What you could do is remove the front dumb irons & replace tham with ones from a series one 88" or 109" as that is all that is different between 88"s & 86"s then every thing would line up and look correct.

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragements, peoples.
I'm happy to leave Matilda as is - in terms of her panels and chassis. The chassis number will forever tell that she is an 86 incher, so to change that wouldn't be right, to my mind.
I don't mind that I have a 1957 body, engine and axels - at least they are all in good order.
I've done some more to her since these pics, so I'll post some further photos later.
