Driver seat adjustment in 109" 2a

I hope someone can help with this problem.

The adjustable seat on the 109" is hard to move and, when it does move, is very 'sticky'.

So I took the seat and seat rails out.

I saw a pin that goes through the rail which I thought was there to stop the rail sliding apart - so I removed it - but the rail still won't dismantle.

It is all old paint and grease in there so I thought I would just pull it apart and thoroughly clean it - but I can't see a way to pull it apart.

Has anyone else managed to do it - successfully and without breaking anything?

    If so - how?

    Thanks in advance.

I didn't think 2A's had adjustable seats. Shows how much I know. Can't help re that cos my Shorty has 2 Toyota Crown highbacks - very comfortable perches but definitely not adjustable. Other seats I've dealt with though have had either small spot welds each end (hard to see if painted), rivets, are crimped somewhere or just punched with 'dimples' to hold the rail in place and/or limit the travel range. Maybe soak for a while in WD40 and then tap lightly - if no movement look for hidden fixings (or a good interference fit).

    good luck

    Thanks

Yeah, the 2a 109" have an adjustable drivers seat. The 88" didn't. Works for me cos I can fit behind the steering wheel on a 109 - no so on an 88"

Thanks for the hints. I have tried a fair bit of WD40 already. I am about to drop them in a tank full of cleaner/degreaser to see if I can get the old sludge out.

    Hi Drifter
Mine took a good few hours to free up, I had the same problem but mine was completely seized.
I first tried gernying straight down the inside of the rail, but found this did not work too well, so i doused the whole thing in degreaser and petrol over and over gernying to get rid of the crap every now and then.
this got it moving but very sticky and not very easily as you said.
I then completely removed the mechanism, put it in a vice and continued to pour degreaser through it. Along with the degreaser i tried to slide the mechanism up and down to free it using a soft hammer, after about 20 minutes of this i blew it all out with a compressor and it was completely free sliding.
    hope this helps

P.S. i'm guessing petrol and degreaser are not the only things to work, I'm guessing alot of WD40 would do the trick too.

I can move mine - just not very well - and that was after a LOT of WD40 went through them

Before I put them in to soak, I am going to try pouring boiling water through them to see if that loosens and flushes out some of the old gunk.

I guess, at this point, I haven't anything to lose and if I can't get the sliders apart I can try all the other methods.
