1959 SWB Basic "Madge" repower with early 2.25l

well that was easier to extract than i thought it was going to be!

hit it with some penetrating oil for a few days

then this afternoon i dropped the drivers side guard, the battery stand and loosened off the radiator support panel to access the thing

undid the bottom bolts, undid the top bolts and used a nail removal bar to lift it out far enough to let me drag it out by hand

three hours and it's out....

i was expecting to be in full hate mode for a week, after some of the stories i have read on here over the years [emoji14]

I think there will be a few saying "I can't believe it! You lucky sod!"

well all i need now is the new steering relay...

went through and reset the tappet clearances, changed the spark plugs and did a little tiding up

topped the steering box with a 50/50 mix of grease and sae 90 and cleaned all i need to get cleaned before the next phase....

new relay fitted and adjusted...

now to put the guards etc back on...

all reassembled except the army bar and the tyre on the bonnet.

took the old girl around the block and am pretty impressed with the difference.

purring like a kitten to boot, after the tune up...

will go for a longer run during the week and then retighten a few things

Well today is a sad day

there is a hole in my shed and a bigger one in my heart.

Madge has gone to a new home.

the only consolation being i know the new owner will look after her better than i can these days....

i need a beer or something stronger i think...
