Spent the evening restoring a pair of lucas 638 lamp assemblies

    Interesting stuff

Couldn't get the original boots but the 477 boots do the job nicely

Now to find bulbs to fit :-)

another 4 or 5 hours lost in landy world..

sorted some of the in dash wiring and got my ignition and spark back, phew!

wired up the new oil pressure switch from mr auto

soldered a couple of parking light wires

trying to diagnose the fuel gauge reading full when not ....

manufactured a heat shield for the back of the motor using some of the alloy from the damaged rear quarter i removed from the 4bd1 county...

    fired the old fella up

    and

it is official, it has enough horsepower to drag itself to the top of my driveway... (several times till the smile on my face subsided...)

    handbrake still works, thankfully

temp side of the combination gauge functions as it should, just waiting on an oil pressure fitting to land so i can fit up the oil pressure side of the gauge.

tomorrow i hope to finish the dash wiring till i find some bulb holders for the late 2a speedo i have fitted (for the trip meter) bottom warning lights and i will try and sort the front bakes and wheel bearings so i can think about fitting the front guards.

scored a couple of l638 lens in excellent nick from the uk so i have two the same shade of clear...

Is the sender still matched to the fuel gauge? If you have them mismatched you will get that symptom. On mine I was wrecking a 2a so I grabbed the gauge AND the sender off it and used them as a matched set.

    where do the hours go?

more dash wiring work including replacing the ignition switch with one of the spares i had... old key works fine even tho the numbers are very different

redid many of the soldered connection on dash fittings and replaced a few lugs.

tried to tidy up the wiring on the low side of the coil and dizzy, found a bad connection so the experience was positive (pardon the pun)

drove the old boy to the top of the driveway and gave underneath a really good clean up with the pressure washer.

    refitted the pedal rubbers

started to refit the cowling around the gearbox and floor plates

painted a few small bits and cleaned up my work area.

another 10 or so hours vanished into the ether...

another 10 hour day and heaps done

    brakes finally sorted (i hope!)

problem with out of round drums and out of alignment shoes finally sorted!

one drum slightly out of round but i am going to try and live with it if i can.

refitted alternator with machined pulley.. lines up lovely now!

fitted passenger side guard and finished the wiring to blinker and parking light only to find parking light has given up the ghost.. grrrrrrrrrrrrr

parker eventually sorted after i found a split fitting.

tried to fit the mudsheild under the guard.

no go..... series ii fit to the guard 4 or 5 inches closer to the firewall than a series iii unit... will have to make some from some ally sheet.

    on to drivers side.....

    fit electric fuel pump

    well that wasnt much fun....

2 hours down the drain before it kicks into life.

fit the drivers side guard in record time, it all just fell into place...

    bonnet aligned and fitted

fire it up and check all the lights still work

visitors arrive... no more getting done today...
