What is it with brush bars being bent like that?
I've seen it often and in the same spot.
Have people tried to tow with a rope attached there or something?

    G'day MrsHH

The bent brush bar would probably be the result of using a high-lift jack, seen this happen a couple of times on Bribie years ago and if that Holden Carby is a small venturi one (FE,FC,FB,EK,EJ,) or early red motor it will run quite well with a 49/50 main jet,to suit a 138/139 (2.25L) motor they just don't like sideslopes much but it depends which way it is mounted, but yours is sitting on it's Zenith adaptor and has the bowl facing the front so should be OK, when /if you replace it with a 36IV Zenith just make sure you have the joint collar insert between manifold and adaptor or they will suck air might be worth checking if it shows signs of rough running.

    cheers

Have you got a picture of a joint collar insert? What you describe sounds like some problems I have been having.

The only Part No I have got is from the old original master parts book R605957 December 1968 and it lists it as P/n R278161 with the black insulation block as P/n R278162 and gaskets R278163 x2 Sorry but I have no photo

    cheers
