Installing Roverdrive-Anything else while it's opened up?

    Hello,
I've got a new Roverdrive on the way and was wondering if there is anything I should be doing while I'm putting it on? I just don't want to miss the chance to replace an easy to get to seal/bearing/etc. while I'm in there.

I really don't want to open a can of worms, but it's occasionally the $2 part you had access to and didn't replace that comes back and bites you on the bum!

Thanks for any help you can offer-JRW

I can't think of anything except to have a good look round for problems while you are at it - these are more likely to be outside the transfer case though - you don't really get much of a view inside, anyway, when fitting an overdrive (and transfer case problems are fairly unlikely anyway). Some of the things you ought perhaps to look at should include for example, oil leaks from the rear seal, condition of U-joints, condition of handbrake and linkage, including the boot round the handbrake lever, and check gearbox mounts for condition and tightness.

    Hope this helps

    John,
Thanks as always for your input! I'll certainly be going over things and poking/prodding while I'm putting in the Roverdrive.

I just wanted to make sure before I open up the Transfer Case.

    Cheers,

You barely have to open the transfer case, merely remove the six bolts for the rear PTO cover/mainshaft rear bearing support and remove it.

Most of the work is in drilling the hole in the gearbox tunnel cover and fitting up the linkages.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

If you have a chance just check the tightness of the rear output shaft nut (1inchAF) behind the front uni joint also the oilseal for leaks, the nut should be 80Ft/Lb

Thanks Uncle Ho! I am probably putting on a X-Brake (X-eng High Performance Off-Road Engineering) while I'm at it.

I don't think the Handbrake Seal is leaking, but will have a look before I take things apart to see if I need a new one.

    Thanks again for the tip!

Just check with Transport Dept in your state as to the legality of a disc handbrake, as I think there is/was a problem regarding them in some states.

    cheers

That would be right, as the rear vision mirrors when first used on racing cars were banned, as they gave an unfair advantage over the ones without.

    Thanks everybody!

I'll try to get to the bottom of the legalities of the conversion on the Series vehicles. If I find something out, I'll post it here.

    Otherwise............buyer beware.

    Cheers,
