    Early 1958 Chassis Numbers

I am interested where the chassis Number is stamped on the Early 1958 series 2s. Particually the first 100 1438...s that went to Australia in Feb 1958

I have the first Series 2 into dispatch at Solihul on Mar 3 1958. 142800016

Originally the chassis was stamped the same as a series I on the inside front Dumb iron and written upside down. It was then restamped on the outsde of the front dumb iron and still written upside down.

Most series 2s are on the outside front dumb Iron and written the right way up

So where are yours stamped and what way up if you have or know of an early 2 ? I am particually interested if any are stamped on the inside of the Chassis rail upside down

    Thanks Richard

G'Day Richard. Good to see you on here.

I own 143800259 which is the earliest one I have come across on here, and as with all (?) CKD RHD Australian assembled ones the chassis no is stamped on the left rear spring shackle bracket.

As far as I am aware the earlier ones were all stamped in this location also.

Obviously yours, being UK assembled, got the chassis number in (near!) the home market model location.

Age and location of chassis number?

Ok, reviving an old thread here instead of starting new.. I have a recently purchased SWB Ser 2 field find... Would love to know the age, and the correct location for the chassis number... Front right dumb iron, or rear left spring bush mount??? The number is 24316173G. Cheers all!

That chassis number is close to my series 2a , it's chassis number is 24317909G . The location of this number is at the L/H rear spring bush mount.

243 makes it a 2A SWB and a G suffix makes it very late, I would guess 70/71.

Hi Richard. I have a series II at my farm and i seem to remember it's chassis number is 142800013.....could this be possible? Its totally original and I bought it as a one owner vehicle...I may be wrong, but the chassis number stood out to me..

    Hi Summitt,
interesting if you have 142800013 - I am not sure that is possible to have that number. I have 142800417 & I would like to see your Series 2 - mine is in 100 pieces & still trying to put it back together.

    regards
    Steve

Maybe I should have started a new thread.... This seemed appropriate to my question but everyone is looking at the original question! Oops!

If yours is the wide light in your avatar, it may also have a "VIN" plate on the radiator support panel showing the actual production month /year.
