Most likely a master cylinder problem. Slave cylinder less likely. But it could also be a partly sheared coupling pin at one end of the tube linking the release fork shaft to the slave cylinder bell crank.

Ive been having a problem with my clutch on the 1968 2A.
Sometimes there is enough pressure to change gears, sometimes not.
I took the reservoir cap off and pumped the pedal a few times and noticed a lot of foamy bubbles raising to the surface of the clutch fluid.
Any ideas?

Do you think it better just to replace the master cylinder wholus-bolus rather than dick around with it?
its the inlet/fill/stem seal failed, about an 8c part that takes about an hour to change by the time you get the MC out, cleaned, dismantled, seperated, cleaned, honed, swap the part, lube the seals put back togehter installed and bled.
when you pull the MC down on the end of the piston assembly you'll see a rubbed cup that gets pushed onto the fill port of the cylinder its that.
(first image in google search) refered to here as the stem tip seal.
essentially after you take up the pedal free play this seal is pushed onto the fill port of the cylinder, after that the motion of the piston pushes the fluid down to the slave and clutch magic happens.
They never improve, once they go once they just get worse and its landrovers way of saying "clutch maintenance and fluid change time" or "nows the time to learn to drive without a clutch"
