I think any improvement to the original exhaust system would make a considerable difference, its a bit of a pea shooter.
Yeah, I'm thinking of removing the fan... a few more horsepower in such a staggeringly grunty unit might actually make a noticeable difference.
Mind you, I would always be worried that my electric fan might go on the fritz on a hot slow day lugging in low range. I might carry the old fan around behind the seat, just in case...
We've all been here before, but any more ideas for a few more horses??

Ladies and Gentleman, not only did Mary do 80kph today she even made it to 60MPH!
Boy does that feel fast in a series 2!
Thanks to everyone for your feed back, it turns out the high speed adjustment was set to only 2600rpm as well as some of the linkages being loose. Reset the max engine RPM to 3600 and she goes like a rocket. The workshop manual states 4200rpm as the max so once the engine is completely run in I will go for the extra revs.
Cheers Simon.
Steady on, Simon. Human beings were never meant to do such mad velocities....
Cheers,
John
P.S. I heard that somebody entered a IIA diesel at Le Mans in 1968. It's due over the finish line next Thursday. Should be worth a look.
P.P.S. Good to hear you've got your motor car sorted.
