Hi,
Where did you pick up the load leveller? I have to do this job myself one day & one of those would be good to have.
regards
Steve
I wasn't too happy removing the GB with a sling as it was such an odd shape and with what seemed to be a variable centre of gravity.
I don't know if this device would be blessed by the Archbishop of Solihull, but it worked damn well & was made with bits of scrap steel.
That load leveller was $30 very well spent!

Very pretty gearbox, with a nice shiny black brake drum.
There is no oil leaks so its obviously not a Rover gearbox!
I do like the load leveler too.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
It was a damn fine box apart from a rumble in 1st when I turn it by hand- but it just sounds loud rather than pathological. I guess there are more things meshing etc in 1st!
The only leak was that pig of a seal behind the park brake.
Load-levellers by the dozen on eBay. If you are not in a hurry (I was!) hang out for a 2nd hand one.
Come over again if you want to borrow one. I got mine from GasWeld in Fyshwick. It was $70 - so a tad more expensive but I compare costs of items against personal injury.
Last Easter I really damaged my elbow knocking out the universals on one of the drive shafts. I subsequently spent $245 on a 20 tonne press - much cheaper than an elbow. Same deal with the load leveller - much cheaper than a damaged body part at any price.
$35 from the rocklea markets when I got mine...

I got mine for free with my engine hoist on a sale promotion. Only used it once though, very handy to have around.
Thanks John, I will borrow it one day when I get up to that stage. i haven't worked on my LR for a while. Been doing a house reno for the last 6 months but it's finished now - so I have to clean up the garage from building supplies & then back into the landrover.

So a few turns of 6mm blue nylon rope isn't considered safe now ?
I'd better revise my plans to get the gearbox & transfer box out of the Series 3 this weekend
