Almost certainly one of the pins that connect the slave cylinder bell crank shaft  to the release fork shaft has sheared. 
If you look you will see that the two shafts are connected by a tube about 5cm long, with two steel pins through it. One of these will be sheared, possibly only one end if you can still get some clutch. It is a bit fiddly but they are relatively easy to replace with the floor, transmission tunnel and bell housing cover out.. You should use the correct pin, but a 1/4" high tensile bolt will do for a short term fix. Do not use a mild steel bolt - it will only last a few dozen operations.
There is a slight possibility it is something else such as an internal problem that means gearbox out, but this is unlikely.
