    Help! 2a clutch issue...

    Hi, please help:

    Vehicle: 2a 1971 WS
    have replace the slave clyinder seal but when the clutch pedal is fully depressed the gear does not engage, so I have to re-press (one to one and half times) the clutch pedal, after which i can change the gear.

    before i changed the seal, all was ok... except that when my friend drove the vehicle, the seal blew... we think that is all that was the problem.

    We have unscrewed the adjustment screw fully out and returned as little as possible,but this still means that travel on the arm needs the extra one to one and half pumps... ANY IDEAS WHAT TO DO NEXT? OR ANY IDEAS WHY THIS IS THE CASE AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO SOLVE THE ISSUE? It's as if the push rod is not long enough, are the arm is bent and is therefore not travelling far enough on the first pump...

    (BTW, was not shouting at you, just used caps to highlight the question! ;0) )

    Almost certainly one of the pins that connect the slave cylinder bell crank shaft to the release fork shaft has sheared.

    If you look you will see that the two shafts are connected by a tube about 5cm long, with two steel pins through it. One of these will be sheared, possibly only one end if you can still get some clutch. It is a bit fiddly but they are relatively easy to replace with the floor, transmission tunnel and bell housing cover out.. You should use the correct pin, but a 1/4" high tensile bolt will do for a short term fix. Do not use a mild steel bolt - it will only last a few dozen operations.

    There is a slight possibility it is something else such as an internal problem that means gearbox out, but this is unlikely.

    After you changed that seal, you did bleed it, didn't you?

    yes John, it was bleed, but thanks for the reply... you never know what you might miss doing, and so often it's the small things... Ta, mark

    Thanks John, will have a look at the Hynes manual... all the housings you have described are off as we were preparing to remove gear box/ whole clutch but then we noticed the slve cylinder rod was not straight, it also looked like the circlip from inside the slave cylinder broke off. Will try as you suggested, and post reply when we've tried that. Many thanks, M
