    More Cleaning

    Hi All,

    Some more jobs done today...

Thanks to Dinty - I now have some period correct canopy bolts. Here are the before / after pictures:

Thanks to dfendr - I now have an air cleaner that isn't full of holes!
    Here is the before picture:

And then after a LOT of time sanding/cleaning, here are the after pictures:

It's come up amazingly well - thanks again dfendr! I shall paint it ASAP (it's almost tempting to clear coat it) - as soon as we have a little warmer weather (forecast for next week).

    That's it for today,
    The Grey Ghost.

Must say you are making great progress, Ill have to get my act together and start on my LWB 59 model I have sitting at a mates place.
The tailgate you have, (think I may have said this back on page one) is from a series one LWB, that is why the hinges are different, they still fit
Looking forward to seeing the finished product

    Update

    Hi All,

I finished painting the air cleaner this week:

I swear Melbourne's weather is conspiring against me...It's been too wet and cold to paint this weekend, so I decided to START another little job... Carpet on the roof...

I kind of regret starting this job:

    Carpet removed:

    STARTED removing the glue/paint:

The previous owner clearly like his glue. This is going to take a while...

    Regards,
    The Grey Ghost

Yeah.....and often when I find things like this on my Landy I haven't even got a previous owner to blame. I keep coming across things I did to my vehicle twenty years ago and thinking "What were you thinking???"

    Update

    Hi All,

Well - it's been a LONG week and I still haven't managed to remove all of the glue and paint from the roof.
I have been using a combination of paint stripper (man that stuff works well, but the smell/fumes) and sanding.
This is certainly the longest time that I have spent sanding/cleaning one particular item on the car.
It is starting to take shape though -

    I decided to clean-up the tail-gate chains - before:

After 2 weeks in the molasses solution:

    Then cleaned with hot water:

    And then sanded as well:

Front valance sanded/cleaned - ready for paint:

    Tailgate - before:

I removed the tread strips and did a little bit of panel beating.
I then sanded and cleaned it ready for paint:

Floor panels - sanded, cleaned and painted:

That's about it - I've spent approximately 8 hours trying to remove the glue, with hopefully only a few more hours left...

    Regards,
    The Grey Ghost

Looking great, Ghost. Isn't Bronze Green the most wonderful colour? I think I'll just keep painting with it even when my Landy's finished.... Bronze Green house, Bronze green shed, Bronze Green letterbox, the kitchen...hell, even the neighbour's dog.......

I agree, it's a pretty cool colour! How did LR ever end up with a nice colour?

    Update

    Hi All,

I finished sanding/cleaning the inside of the roof, and managed to put 2 coats of Classic Cream on it:

Painted 2 of the seat box lids - 2 coats:

Had a sticker made for me (another thread):

Painted the trans tunnel cover - 2 coats:

The trans tunnel has been butchered for the over-drive gear lever.
I will fabricate a repair panel, but in the mean time I painted the cover.
    Old Panel:

Tunnel Painted with new sticker installed:

Drivers floor repair panel - cut out:

I will continue to work on the rear tail gate, and post some pictures once I have finished re-building it.

    Regards,
    The Grey Ghost
